Robber Fly

I was gardening in West Sacramento, CA and thought I saw a strange bee. I took a few pictures with the telephoto lens, and thought I had discovered a new species! It turned out to be a “robber fly”, and not a bee at all. So, no insects will be named after me, but I still got some excellent, almost sci-fi, photos out of it.
